Icealand = Incredible

The day after our heli adventure we decided a rest day would be beneficial. Some good old fashioned sight seeing was on the menu...



We went to Myvatn (1.5hr drive from Akureyri) to a natural hot spring which is located between two continental plates. And did I mention it is a cave as well!!! The water was so hot but we slowly got acclimatized and got our entire bodies in. One of the coolest things I have ever seen/done! On the way to the hot springs a guy working at a gas station was mentioning that there was some whales in a bay near by that have been feeding for the past 8 days. On our way home from the hot springs we decided to try our luck and go to the one bay he described. With in seconds of pulling up we saw some movement down by the water. We all hurried down the mountain side and were all instantly in awe. 2 hump back whales swimming back and forth feasting! We were fortunate enough to see one of the whales jump out of the water! AMAZING!










We have finished the snowboarding portion of our trip in Akureyri. We took advantage of the 2 resorts that were near by, Hlidarfjall and siglufjordur. They were not open but we used their roads to gain some elevation. Without the roads we would have to resort to more hiking than we were already doing. Built a couple features with some beautiful back drops. The one over our rental car has a waterfall and a fjord in the background but the weather came in as soon as we were ready to shoot!







Gave our place a nice clean and off we went back to Reykjavik.



Nikita was generous enough to let our crew stay at their downtown store front location, which has an amazing apartment and office above it. Not to mention a backyard with mini ramp and large area to host parties and bbqs. And that is exactly what they did. Geiri the marketing manager manned the grill and cooked up some of the finest hot dogs iceland has to offer. (*Hot dogs are Icelands most popular food* no joke!)







We hit the streets and went out with the crew. The group of people in and around Nikita have such a good vibe to them. Everyone is so nice and are constantly giving back to the sport.



Nightlife in Iceland is amazing. Everyone is so unique and is not afraid to be themselves. Saying that, you can go speak to a total stranger in the bar and they wont be stand offish. Totally welcoming and nice.



Iceland is amazing and I would totally recommend it. Only thing I would advise is that the weather changes very fast. It snowed in the city 2 days before we got there and while we were there it was in and around 15degrees. Some advice to pass on is that your best bet will be to go April. Best weather/daylight/snow ratio!

The team together at last!

We made it to Akuyeri. 5hr drive along the west coast of the island heading north from Reykjavik.



Our Cabin is amazing. We got a hookup through Hallldor Helgason’s Grand Mother.



Our first day of riding consisted of a serious river crossing. We took our boots off and braved the glacier run off to get to a patch of snow we scoped from the road. The snow line is quite high so we need to hike to everything.



Second day of riding we went with arctic heli skiing (www.arcticheliskiing.com) for a bump up to the top. JB and his crew are super nice guys! Great views and great weather. What more can you ask for! At the end of the day we boarded down to the bottom of the snow line and hiked out to the jeep. 16hr day and daylight the enire time. Got home at 11pm and there was still tons of light in the sky!





We are all so beat today. Going for a hot tub in some natural hot springs between to 2 continental plates. After our relaxation time we are going to hit a rail up by one of the resorts!

We all Made it to Iceland.....Kinda

Hello from the Kex Hostel in Reykjavik Iceland.

Myself (Byron), Craig Beaulieu and John Scarth(SBC) Have spent our first day in Iceland. The other 2 riders (Matt Belzile and Vera Janssen) for our trip missed their flight to a combination of border troubles and an accident on their way to Seatac Airport. They arrive Wednesday morning at 7am local time.



Tomorrow we are off in our 4x4 Nissan SUV/Jeep thingy 5hrs north to Akureyri. Apparently there is tons of snow there still! We are all Stoked to see the Country side. Judging by our 30min drive from the airport it feels like we are on the moon. Lots of lava rock scattered over the flat barren land.



There is a total of 4 hours of complete darkness during the day here. Currently it is 10PM and sun is long gone but the sky has a bit of light left in it.

update from whistler backcountry

Being patient and waiting for sunshine and snow paid off -
Back from Japan for only 8 hours, Chris Rasman and Colin DWatt manned up and joined JF Fortin and myself on a fun day up in the Whistler Backcountry!



We built a sick jump and all 3 of us got shots,
then Rasman sent a HUGE back7 into baked snow and snapped his board,
so him and JF went down early while DWatt and I scoped around to some more spots until sundown..

Calgary Road Trip!

As her eyes awoke to a blaring alarm clock at 4:15 am , Breanna Stangeland had to finish packing her truck. After completing this great task, she then hit the road to pick up the comedian of the trip, Jon Versteeg.On Breanna’s route to Jon’s place, she was followed by the police from Tamarisk to Alpine. Not really a good start to the day since she had to pick me up in Pemberton which is 25 minutes north of Whistler. When the crew got to my house, it was approximately 5:45. We loaded up the truck and away we went to grab breakfast at the local McDonalds. (laughing) 15 minutes breakfast later, we left for Calgary. With loud music and a bunch of rowdy punks in the car, I knew this trip was going to be a good one.

Aproaching Lillooet, we decided to stop in, have coffee and try on balaclavas at Lightfoot gas. Couple hours later, we arrived in Sicamous. Breanna remembered that there is some funny animals we needed to see at the local ice creamery. To our surprise, a camel, a donkey, and a lama. Jon and myself were in shock! We stayed for a bit and took funny photos of the weird animals they had at this place.

Leaving from there, we were content. We had one more stop before leaving Sicamous, and that stop was Tim Hortons for more delicious coffee. We jumped back in the car and was on our route to Banff to meet Craig Mcmorris. (who is staying with us in the room) Leaving banff, we only had 1 more hour left until our drive was finally over. Getting into Calgary, we scoped out some rails that we will be hitting when we aren’t competing for the Canadian Open. It was a mellow night, cause we were beat from the drive. The day is over.

Monday morning arrives. Coffee is prepared and breakfast is had. We jumped in Breanna’s truck and scoped out more rails around Calgary. We know what we wanted to hit and what days to hit them on. Some of the rails were at schools so we need to hit them at night or on the weekend. After scoping rails for a bit, we registered for the contest and rode at C.O.P for a couple runs. It was icy but fun. After that, we checked into our hotel and hit the hot tub and waterslide.
